Rose listened to the kids speak as she carefully moved to the front of the bus, keeping low and quiet. She ensured the front doors were locked and sat low in the driver's seat. There were no keys, but Rose had learned during high school how to hotwire a car thankful for her rebellious faze that was never noticed by her cop guardian.
She moved back out of the seat and back to the kids, peeking out every few windows to assess the outside.
"Hopefully your sister brings more firepower" she stated and sat in the walkway between all the kids. "From my understanding, it's worse out there" she stated, not wanting to give them false hope. "I came straight here the moment I overheard and saw the disturbances" she added and before she could say more she felt her pocket vibrate, she pulled out her phone in a panic and checked the caller before answering it.
"Lily? Lily! Is your room ok?" she whispered-yelled.
"Rose *static* door *static* screams outside *static* what *static* on" she heard and swore under her breath knowing the phone grid was responsible for the static.
"Baby, you stay in the room, don't try to leave and make sure the others stay silent, I'm outside. I'm coming" she said hoping that her instructions were heard before the line went dead. "Fuck" she muttered before looking up at the students again. "I won't let you die, ok. but I need to leave you all for a minute" she said and held her hand up to forestall any complaints. "I'm going to first sneak over to the other cars in the parking lot and grab you some weapons. Each car should have a Club Lock and hopefully a Tireiron, they should be hard enough and long enough to hurt them not you" she stated and looked out the window again to check the outside. "Then I'm going around the building again, hopefully, I can find some assistants to help guard your guys, and maybe they can lead me to some more clips for my gun" she told them. "Don't hesitate using that baton if you're in trouble" she said before moving back to the back of the bus and removing the unimportant items from her utility belt, leaving her with her, badge, radio, ammunition, flashlight and gun, she placed the rest in a pocket in the back of the last seat.
"I'll be back with protection" she promised before opening the door silently and slipping out, closing the door again just as quietly before using the other Buses as cover and heading towards the parked cars in the parking lot. She hated it but she thanked the teachers and dying students for their screams and shouts as they kept any infected outside distracted from everything she did. Quickly gathering the items she promised she also found an old phone, probably from one of the older teachers who couldn't understand new phones. She rushed back to the bus and shoved the pilfered items, besides the phone, through the bus's back door and then closed it again. She sprinted back around the building, each new classroom window she peaked in to look for an Android assistant or survivors.
